When Diana found The Relatives, she was homeless, frightened, and pregnant with twins. She had nowhere to go and no one to turn to. If she couldn’t care for herself, then how could she care for two babies?
Charlotte was Diana’s last stop on a physically exhausting and emotionally draining journey between family members in Fayetteville and Asheville. In each location Diana faced abuse, rejection, and was repeatedly told she wasn’t worth helping.
At The Relatives, Diana wasn’t defined by her despair, the rejection she had experienced, or by the helplessness she was feeling.
Instead, The Relatives Intake Specialist, Latasha (pictured at left), saw Diana’s potential as a young woman worthy of acceptance and support and told her, “If no one’s told you they love you, I’m telling you now: I love you.” Diana’s Case Manager, Annett, saw a young woman in need of relief and helped her secure stable housing. Our Employment Readiness Specialist, Essence, saw Diana’s potential for a bright future by equipping her with the resources necessary to find a job.
Your past generosity has helped The Relatives create this space where young people in crisis, like Diana, can feel loved and supported as they work towards independence. You can continue helping these young people realize their potential for a safe, stable life through a multi-year gift.
I know you see the potential in our community’s youth and The Relatives’ ability to serve them. Please help us sustain this critical, life saving work by joining our Family of Giving today.
Thank you for being a Relative to Diana and the thousands of young people who still need our help.
