Dear Relatives,
For over 10 years, 400 people have set their alarms to wake up just a bit earlier on an October morning, circled around Dilworth to find parking, and gathered at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral to discover not only a Chick-fil-A biscuit, but more about the crises facing our vulnerable youth and young adults.
Our Breakfast With The Relatives fundraiser allows us to share our story with you in the most impactful way we can – through the words of our youth. Whether it’s a life-long supporter, or someone who never knew the bungalow on East Blvd. was a crisis shelter, people gather to listen to our kids bravely share their journey to stability and independence. But, like all things in 2020, this year’s Breakfast is different. With large gatherings a thing of the past, and more people getting comfortable with the notion of virtual events, we have shifted how we’ll share our message. And in the year we need your help the most, shifting can be a bit daunting.
We just kicked off our fiscal year on October 1 and, like most of the youth and young adults who come to us seeking refuge, our year ahead feels unpredictable. Philanthropic giving covers over 50% of our operating budget, and the Breakfast normally makes up about 25% of our total income. October is such an important part of our calendar, but we are confident we can count on all of you throughout the year.
Now more than ever, our kids need your support. In this year of unknowns you can be a steadying force in the lives of our young people. Your contributions, no matter what size or what time of year, empower our youth and young adults to build a bright future.

Charlotte Wine + Food
Charlotte Wine + Food has been a part of our Relatives family for the past 4 years. They typically host their main event in April, which benefits various organizations supporting children in our community. We have been fortunate to be involved and have received over $100,000 as a result of our partnership.
While they had to postpone 2020’s event until this Fall, they continued to support us by bringing in several meals so that our kids could enjoy some of Charlotte’s finest dining, and have provided gift cards to thank our staff for going above and beyond.

We have been so fortunate to have our volunteers and donors come together with activities, meals and financial contributions during the last six months and we are incredibly grateful. As we look to continue our annual fundraising efforts in a virtual world, we would love for you to consider hosting an event in support of The Relatives, either in a small group or virtually on Zoom.
